This is a project that my design groupmates in SUTD and I came up with. Fortnight, an interactive canopy that can be installed on your bed, aims to help bad sleepers sleep better and faster by interacting with the canopy. There are four modes of interaction with the canopy. ( 1. Reminder to sleep 2. Stretching 3. Breathing 4. Meditation ) These modes are accessible through our phone app!

A video demonstration of Fortnight!
Group photo with my group mates! Ironically, we lost alot of sleep while building a product that helps people sleep more! haha

My proudest work of designing the poster for our final presentation :)

The final poster!

Our Fortnight was so pretty, it became a photo booth for many users!

Outer look of fortnight.

Beneath the covers!! Exposing all the electronics and support frames

On top is a netting for air vantilation

My room turned into a workshop for our project haha. It's literally the size of a bed!

Our first few ideas and prototypes that led to our final products! This was a pitching session to our professors to convince them how good our product is!

1st stage of our support frames! The pipes were bent using hot water. strings were tight to lock the frames in place.

Dimensions for the support frame

Installed 150 optical fibers into our canopy to mimic the starry night sky! It was a painstaking process but worth it!

We used Arduino for programming :
Soldering infra-red sensors onto the board. This is a significant component for our stretching game.We programmed it in such a way that users have to touch the sensors for 8 seconds (recommended time for stretching) in order to "turn off' the light. However, our cheeky star likes to run around, hence users will have to 'catch' (turn off) the stars for about 10 times to end the game.

I was in-charge of sewing the entire clothing for the canopy. I would say I did a great job for a first timer hehe. Took about 2weeks to handle 6 3mX2m cloth! Pheww

Food for thought:
All in all, it was a fruitful 4months journey with my groupmates! We were all proud of how far we came and especially for our finished Fortnight! We had lots of fun brainstorming ideas, showcasing our strengths while learning new things from each other. Both technology and design proved to be as significant for this project to ensure ultimate user experience! Of course, I am so grateful for all our profs that helped us through this, and always pushing us to improve and come up with better ideas! Fortnight is later installed in our classrooms for my classmates to sleep in during breaks (especially me! hehe)
